Final Call for Proposals for JPEG DNA
May 15, 2023

The scope of JPEG DNA is the creation of a standard for efficient coding of images that considers biochemical constraints and offers robustness to noise introduced by the different stages of the storage process that is based on DNA synthetic polymers.

At its 99th online meeting, the JPEG committee released a Final Call for Proposals (CfP) for JPEG DNA. This call is accompanies by two additional documents, namely, JPEG DNA Requirements and JPEG DNA Common test conditions.

The call for proposals welcomes contributions in one or two categories of the call, namely, 1) efficient transcoding of already compressed JPEG images from binary to quaternary, 2) coding of uncompressed images in quaternary representation. Proponents to express their interest to submit a proposal by pre-registering before 2023-07-10, submit their proposal package by 2022-10-02 and a technical description by 2023-10-23. Full details about the timeline, submission requirements and evaluation processes are documented in the CfP.

To keep informed and get involved in the discussion, interested parties are invited to register to the ad hoc group’s mailing list.
